Indiana County Thrives is not just an initiative; it's a commitment to the prosperity and resilience of our communities. Forged through the partnership of The Center For Community Growth Indiana PA and W.H.O.L.E Unity and funded through the Coal Communities Get Ready! grant from the Just Transition Fund, Indiana County Thrives is a community-driven program that leverages the grassroots strengths and inclusive missions of its partnering organizations to maximize our area’s vision of economic and workforce development opportunities.
Our Origins
At its core, Indiana County Thrives embodies a rich history of community engagement and activism. The Center for Community Growth was the driving force behind the Indiana County Sustainable Economic Development Taskforce (ICSED), pioneering ahead of its time with a 6-year documentary series that drew attention to inevitable transitions. It established the Food Bucks program, granting SNAP recipients access to the Indiana County Farmers Market, and hosted an informative public safety podcast during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. With an unwavering commitment to advancing social, racial, economic, LGBTQIA+, and environmental justice, The Center champions the cause of a more inclusive and vibrant community experience.
W.H.O.L.E Unity Inc., an acronym for Wellness, Hope, Opportunities, Love, Embracing Unity, serves as the fiscal sponsor and a crucial partner in championing diversity and equity within the scope of the initiative. Committed to fostering community well-being, W.H.O.L.E Unity actively sponsors programs designed to encourage entrepreneurship and provide support for local businesses in Indiana. The organization plays a pivotal role in bridging cultural gaps, engaging in partnerships with county human services agencies, and collaborating with various organizations to enhance the overall welfare of the community.
